Privacy policy
We keep as little as we can. Buyers search without an account. Sellers give us an email address so they can sign in. We never sell personal data, never show a buyer's or seller's email address to the other side, and never take payment.
Who we are
mindmydomain.com is an independent site run from the United Kingdom by a sole trader, trading as mindmydomain, who is responsible for the personal data described here (the "data controller"). For any question or request, email privacy@mindmydomain.com.
Sellers
- Email address, and your name if you give it. To sign you in, run your account and email you about offers and your listings.
- Signing in with Google. If you choose it, Google tells us your email address, that Google has checked it, and your name. We ask for nothing else: we never see your Google password, and we can't reach your Gmail, contacts or files. We use the address only to find or make your seller account.
- Your listings. Domain names, prices, descriptions and links to your marketplace are public, because that is how buyers and their AI assistants find them.
- Sign-in records. We keep only scrambled (hashed) copies of sign-in codes, links and agent API keys, so they can't be read from our database.
- Reviews. If you review us after a name sells, we show it publicly only if you say we may, and only after we've checked it.
- The listing rewriter. If you use it, we send that listing's text to Anthropic's Claude to suggest a better description.
Buyers
- Searches. We keep the words searched (by people or AI assistants), any filters, which names came back and which assistant asked (such as Claude or ChatGPT). They aren't linked to a person, account or IP address. We use them to improve search and to show sellers the searches that found, or nearly found, their names. Don't put personal details in a search.
- Views and buy-link clicks on a listing are counted, without identifying anyone, for the seller's statistics.
- Offers. If you or your assistant make an offer, we keep your email address, the amount and your message. We use the address to confirm the offer and to tell you the seller's answer. The seller never sees it, and we remove contact details from messages in both directions.
- Name alerts. If you ask us to email you when a matching name is listed, we keep your email address and that search. Every alert email has a link to stop them.
Everyone
Our servers keep short technical logs, including IP addresses, to keep the site secure and to fix faults. Older logs are overwritten automatically.
Our legal reasons
We use seller and offer details because you asked us to provide the service (a contract). We keep search statistics, listing counts and server logs because we have a legitimate interest in running a useful, secure marketplace, and they don't identify anyone.
Cookies
We only set cookies that sign-in needs, so there is no cookie banner and no advertising or tracking:
sessionkeeps a seller signed in, for up to 30 days.login_nextremembers which page to return to after signing in, for up to an hour.google_loginprotects a Google sign-in from forgery, for 10 minutes.
We don't use third-party analytics.
Who else handles it
These companies process data for us, only to provide this site:
- Amazon Web Services, in London: our servers, emails and backups.
- Supabase, in Ireland: our database, and sending sign-in emails.
- Google: only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Anthropic: only a listing's text, only when its seller uses the rewriter.
Google and Anthropic may handle data in the United States, under their data protection terms. We don't sell personal data or share it for advertising. Payment and transfer of a name happen on the seller's marketplace (such as Afternic, Sedo or Escrow.com), under that marketplace's own privacy policy.
How long we keep it
- Seller accounts and listings: until you close your account. Sellers can edit or remove listings at any time.
- Offers and name alerts: while they're active, and then only as long as needed to answer questions about them.
- Backups: 30 days, then deleted automatically.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, and ask us to correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, object to how we use it, or send it to you in a portable form. Emailprivacy@mindmydomain.com and we'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Children
This site is for people buying and selling domain names for business. It isn't meant for children.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and email sellers about any important change.
